2013 DODGE DART SE trunk won't open

Asked by DBOY707 Aug 19, 2016 at 12:27 PM about the 2013 Dodge Dart SE FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I don't have a keyhole to open the trunk. My key fob has a trunk button and when I push it 2 times the lights will blink, and you can hear the trunk try to open, but it won't. I also have pushed the trunk release from under the dashboard and it won't open. The only way to open it is to fold down the back seat and climb back into the trunk and pull the release. That is too frustrating to do over and over. What could possibly be wrong & how can I fix this?

Still have it under warranty? If it is, take it back to the dealer and let them fix it. If not, you may have a bad lock actuator, or just a dirty lock mechanism that's sticking. Get the trunk open then test the actuator. With the trunk open pop the key fob and see/hear if the actuator is moving. From your description it sounds like it is working but it might be sticking, try spraying graphite lubricant in it to free it. Or it might be slightly out of alignment to move the locking mechanism enough to open the trunk, you'll have to play with it to see if that is the case.

Do your door locks work? I had on mine where the trunk and door locks didnt work and found a blown fuse in the under dash fuse panel

But if it was the fuse then the the lights would not be flashing when I hit the trunk button.....correct? I would like a few minutes alone with the designers for not putting a key hole on the trunk.

I replaced the fuse shown in the picture and everything work . It’s located underneath the driver dashboard .

My dashboard indicates that my trunk is open when it's not and it keeps tripping my alarm

My dashboard indicates the trunk is open as well. Now the trunk stopped opening all together. Did you ever get yours fixed

When you open the trunk, on the right side where the wires are attached, there was a plastic piece around the wires that was stretching all the wires wrapped in the tape. So bad that it broke the one wire. There were 3 other wires that had exposed wire to each other. Once they were repaired the trunk worked again. Guessing that’s the problem with the lights that won’t flash when you lock/unlock the car as well. Have to look at more of the wires soon and I’ll post again if I find anything. That was the case with my car. Yours may have different problems.
