Transmission

Asked by Marcus Dec 21, 2016 at 12:46 AM about the 2001 Dodge Dakota SLT Quad Cab 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I own a 2001 Dodge Dakota 4x4 4.7l engine with an
automatic transmission. The transmission went
out a month ago and my other car isn't reliable. My
truck doesn't move in the all wheel drive normal
setting, but it does move and drive in the 4 hi and
low setting. Would I mess up my truck even more if
I drive it short distances in 4 low?

Check the fluid level in the transfer case. Sounds like the problem is either with the transfer case or the mechanism that shifts the transfer case and not the transmission. I would not go driving around in 4 wheel low.
