2013 Ford Explorer humming noise at 45+MPH

Asked by GuruD4Q4G Aug 03, 2017 at 10:29 AM about the 2013 Ford Explorer XLT 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My vehicle has 62k miles on it.  I am getting a humming sound at 45+ MPH.  I realize it could be the transmission, wheel bearings, rear end, or even tire noise.  I don't think it is the bearings as they would squeak.  I recently replaced the tires with the exact same Nankook tires I had on it when I bought it new.  Can anyone help me...has anyone experienced this with their Explorer?  Thank you in advance!!

Wheel bearing will make the humming noise and would be easy for u to check, just jack it up and spin and try to shake the wheel side to side. Transmission or rear end noises will have to be diagnosed by mechanic

GuruD4Q4G, were you able to figure out the issue you were having? I have a 2014 with almost the exact same mileage and symptoms.

I have a 2013 and had the axel changed, tires rotated. complete tune up and now it is happening at 25 MPH. 3 mechanics and nobody knows what could be wrong.
