I have a 2013 Ford Escape and when I
crank it, it revs up so loud, it's
embarrassing! It's cranks very easily, but
then revs up just for a second without my
foot on the gas. When it's idling, it's
normal! It's just when cranking it!
Hi there! This actually can occur because of a few issues. Typically, there is an item called an idle air control motor or solenoid (also known as an IAC) located near the throttle body which can often stick in position if internally, it catches "gunk" or "sludge"... Sometimes they have even been known to come apart due to wear. If it only does the revving when it's not in gear, this is a likely scenario depending on the position it may be stuck in.
I have a 2010 Ford Escape XLT. Shortly after purchase 2013 used, it hit 60,000 miles and the engine was reving even at idle. Ultimately, it is a known fact that Ford Explorers, Escapes, and most of their trucks, when they hit 60 to 75 Thousand miles, the transmission goes. I was on an expressway trying to accelerate, the car would not move. Took it to the dealer. I had and after market, non manufacturer's warranty. They dropped 2 transmissions because the first used transmission did the same exact thing. The second one is now starting to slip. My advice to you is, if you don't know how to put transmissions in yourself, unload it. Everyone that I know that has a Ford truck or SUV has the same exact problem. I will never buy a Ford again. The service is terrible and they need to fix this problem. It's written all over the Internet about the this problem. The dealer will say they just adjusted the computer, they adjusted the idling. Ultimately you need a new transmission.
