Engine trouble

2013 Ford Fusion 1.6L. I was accelerating from a stop,
normally getting to the speed limit (not going crazy with
the acceleration) got to second gear and a thud came
from the engine, my RPM dropped completely, and lost
normal throttle response. My check engine light came on,
and I pulled it in to stop for a few. Started back up, check
engine light was still on, but driving back to the house a
few miles down the road the the throttle response seemed
normal again, and RPMs were steady. I was thinking spark
plugs, but I’ve also just had them replaced last January.
Anyone had this issue, or can lend some advice?

It's hard to give a useful response without more information or having the car in front of us, so let me make a few suggestions to help us help you: 1) need to know mileage, 2) check for OBD trouble codes, this can be done at any parts store or service garage, parts stores will check them for free. That said, a thud could have been a knock, caused by bad timing, or bad air/fuel mix (running too rich). A sensor may be acting up affecting fuel mix, if that is the case you may see a trouble code for it. You mention replacing the plugs, but you may still have a bad plug wire or coil pack or distributor cap that caused a misfire, too many possibilities to choose from. You may even want to check under the front and make sure you didn't hit road debris that got jammed up with the serpentine belt and caused a momentary loss of power.
