Do i have a blown head gasket?

Asked by Jul 23, 2019 at 12:27 AM about the 2002 Dodge Dakota RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

02 Dakota 4.7 v8, won't start unless throttle is at
least half / full way open, spark plug boots are dry,
plugs(the part in the combustion chamber) are
soaked in oil, no codes, this thing is smoking out
the neighbor hood once it finnaly will idle, smoke
will clear up but it always comes back

1 Answer

If the spark plug tips are oil soaked then you have a badly worn engine. I had a Jeep with the same engine and it started doing the same thing right at 130K miles, I just got rid of it. No more Chrysler products.
