As with any car there are a great many factors to consider. Get a Carfax on the vehicle. See if it was a rental car at some point. Did it have multiple owners over its lifetime? Were any wrecks reported? Does it have a salvage title? You may want to avoid buying a car with that type of history. Next, find a reliable mechanic and ask them to look over the vehicle with you. Drive the car and feel for any abnormality in the ride and steering on city streets and the highway. If you feel any vibration or wobble, or if you hear rattling, clicking, clanking, knocking, or excessively loud noises then you most likely don't want that car.

If you are buying the BMW from a BMW dealer be sure the vehicle is BMW certified. Big advantage.
