i'm about to purchase a 2012Jetta 2.0 L Petrol - but going through the comments raised earlier, i am under theimpression that it is NOT a quite a trouble free vehicle..especially the safe mode option.

Yes, a very expensive car to fix. Lots of problems but better than a Passat or Bug. Be aware there are many things different on these cars. If they even sit for too long the battery drains itself. I am an enthusiast but grew up working on them and know the issues go on and on. If you have a great VW mechanic and $$ it's a good buy.
