How much to repair lifters on 2012 VW Routan?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Have a 2012 VW Routan (about 115K miles) with ticking engine noise.
Mechanic diagnosed as noisy/damaged lifter.

Quoted $1500-$2000 to replace all lifters; was told it was a good idea to
replace all at once since lifters are not easily accessible.

Is that reasonable?

Mechanic also hinted that I might just want to sell the van.  Are noisy lifters
indicative of other problems to come?  Are they even worth repairing?

Thanks in advance!

Talked to two other mechanics that wouldn't give a ballpark estimate, but insisted it was a big job. Talked to two others that flat out said they wouldn't do such a repair. Asked a VW dealer about it, but he said they don't do jobs that are that involved. In the end, I traded in the van (to a VW dealer).
