Why would my engine skip when accelerating above 20mph?

Asked by Natasha Dec 03, 2015 at 03:28 PM about the 2012 Toyota Camry LE

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I own a 2012 toyota camry and about a
month and a half ago,  my check engine
light popped on. I got it checked and it said
the system was too lean.  The light went off
a week later. About 2 weeks after that, my
car started to skip when acceleration gets
around 20mph. I cleaned the mass flow air
sensor and used the fuel injector cleaner.
The car only has 89,000 miles,  so it's not
due for a tune up. Do you have any
suggestions?

I would get your car scanned for codes even if the light went out. I have a feeling that it may have a code stored for a bad O2 sensor. Also check for vacuum leaks. A bad ECT can also cause a lean mixture. But see if you can pull a code. Should be stored in memory. Try Autozone. Most of them will read your codes for free.

Where are buying your fuel? ASK the attendant how much alcohol is in the fuel. Try changing brands.
