What does it meaan when the brake indicator light keeps coming on

Asked by anamazon13 Jul 01, 2017 at 11:20 AM about the 2004 Dodge Neon SXT Sedan FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

The brake indicator light has been coming on accompanied by a ding noise and then turning off. It doesn't do it all the time. We've checked the emergency break. We think it's because we need to replace brakes but are unsure.

Same issue. Brake shop said maybe bad sensor. I had them just unplug it. Light still goes on and off and beeps. I have no idea how a light and beeping happens with no sensor..

When starting from a stop, my brake light came on and a ding sound was heard. It would happen again when I shifted to second gear. Then, as I continued to drive, the light would go out. I checked the brake fluid level and it was low. I added fluid and the problem was fixed.

I never followed up on this, but what was happening is my ECU computer was starting to fail. A month or two after I posted this, it died and so did the car. $750 later and it sort of works. I said screw it and bought a new car. The Neon still sits in the driveway, technically working.
