Why does front end shake while idling?

Asked by Kellie_Mae Mar 02, 2011 at 11:57 AM about the 2004 Dodge Neon SE Sedan FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

There is some serious shaking going on when the car is stopped, still in drive. Interestingly, if the steering wheel is turned about 45%, the shaking stops. The motor mounts have already been replaced...Any ideas?

hello everyone the shaking and vibration is your motor mounts sorry to tell you its the truth you have 3 total and a transmission mount on the driver side under the battery tray and your 3 motor mounts are on the passenger side you have one on the top one on the bottom and the main one with the most support is in the middle of the 2 yes its not that hard to change out i think but some think its a pain in the ass but most dont know its there and if you changed the other 2 and still have vibration and shaking and noises im prettysure thats the problem also the reason the noises stop at high speeds its because the motor balances out at high rpm also it will go away when you turn the wheel at wide turns because your putting weight or a load on it or whaever you want to call it in a easier way its as if your putting a hand on the broke mount and stabalizing it hopefully this helps and if you still have shaking and vibrations after that i would check for bad tires worn out bushings or a wheel alignment have a good one

Not the motor mounts for me. Replaced all three, replaced motor and timing belt. Everything's been done to this car that can be done. It's still shakes at an idle in gear. I read a comment that suggested turning the wheel 45° would stop it. I'm going to try that next. Going to inspection today.
