Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2004 Ford explorer v8 , i recently replaced the
thermostat but immediately after i began to leak antifreeze
from somewhere. It seems to puddle up top by the
thermostat.  A mechanic said it was a manifold gasket & it
would be a $600 fix. Your thoughts please...

he's a mechanic... pretty sure he knows what hes talking about. price shop around for a better price if youre that tight

It wasn't leaking till i changed the thermostat, could it have been something he did?

that is possible. Take it back to him and ask him to look it over that it didnt start leaking until he changed it.

Btw its not being tight, its just difficult to find an honest mechanic around here...

I did that, but like i said, hard to find an honest mechanic around here. He said it had nothing to do with him..go figure..

Could it be that the guy left your thermostat housing just a little loose and he is thinking you will bite on a head gasket job you don't need? Put a wrench on the Tstat bolts and see if they are loose.
