Question type: Maintenance & Repair

When I use the remote to lock my car when parked, the lights and short horn beep-now have stopped coming on.  The vehicle still locks but the beep and flash that alert to me the car is locked and alarmed has stopped functioning.
Any ideas?

Do you click the lock button on the key fob just once or do you click it several times? I ask because every car I have, if you click the button just once, it locks the doors, and I think that also sets the alarm, but I have to click all of them 2 or 3 times to get the horn chirp and lights flash to make sure that the alarm is set. Every car I have ever owned was like this. I currently have a 96 Sable a 2000 Accord and a 2011 Santa Fe, & all my Chryslers used to do the same thing. On the Accord there is a red light next to the lock button on the door that flashes red when the alarm is set, no matter if you press the lock button once or several times. The Sable has the word Security in the dash gauges that flashes red when you press the lock button no matter if once or several times, and the Santa Fe has a red light that flashes on top of the dash board near the windshield that always flashes even if I don't press the lock button.

As I previously stated the lights would flash once and the horn beeped when the alarm was activated...FYI the button would have to be pressed twice. Now it randomly has just stopped doing this, I do not own a Sable nor a Santa Fe but had I, this would have been helpful. Thanks Jp

Your welcome, but as I said, I have a 00 Accord also, which we bought used from a lot. The alarm has never beeped the horn or flashed the lights since we got it, with only one push of the button. If you press it once, you can hear the locks all lock. If you press it 2 or 3 times in rapid succession, it locks the doors, flashes the lights and beeps the horn, so basically I am just asking you what happens when you press it 2 or 3 times?

Did you ever find out what the problem was? My 2005 Honda Accord does the same thing. I press the button numerous times and the car locks but no lights flash and horn doesn’t beep. I tested the alarm by locking the car with the key fob and unlocking it by hand and the alarm doesn’t go off. I don’t want to take it in to a mechanic but I also don’t like not having an alarm on my car.
