Altinator or battery

My car battery light came on and was making a
whining noise plus ran hot. I asked a mechanic
about it he said the altinator but could it be a bad
battery

A lot of people make the mistake of when they see that little battery icon show up in the dash it needs a battery but what it is really telling you is there is a problem with the charging system which most of the time is a bad alternator.
