How do you fix the CEL light or check for air on a Ford Explorer 2012? CEL lights comes on gas tank was not closed tightly?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I am pretty sure the problem may be my not closing the cap carefully and completely.  I've only put gas in three to four times. Previously there was no problem. Now, I noticed, it was slightly open this morning after filling the tank yesterday and thinking I had closed it properly/tightly.  What should I do besides the obvious, check the cap carefully each time.

Ah ha it has capless fuel filler. Then that is pretty simple, open the fuel door, insert pump nozzle, fuel, remove nozzle and close the fuel door. How in the world could anyone mess that up?

Thank you Tennisshoes, your answer was very "helpful" and considerate, not antagonistic or belittling without the full details or considering "malfunction".

Remember: Newer vehicles are not allowed to allowed to emit gasoline fumes into the air. The little door could be defective, allowing air into the system. This could cause a CEL. Also, when fueling, DO NOT force feed gas into the tank after it clicks off the first time. Doing so will force liquid gasoline into line going to the charcoal filter, destroying it. It could also damage the EVAP solenoid pump. On my F 150 the pump is located on the top of the intake manifold.
