2005 Dodge Neon

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

started a few weeks ago.  check engine light would come on for a while off for a while then has stayed on.  Cruise control will not work when the light is on.  When the light is on it starts good runs good if driving at a grandma pace.  If you step it down it will jerk and miss like crazy.

The code came up as cam shaft sensor, so I changed that sensor.  Light came back on.  The code then was crankshaft sensor, so changed that.  Light still on.  Cleaned all connections.  Tested wires from both sensors to the computer with ohm meter, all tested good.  I was thinking maybe it was a stretched out timing belt, but I have ruled that out.  I have found as I disconnect the cam shaft sensor the light goes off and stays off for at least a mile.  During this time the cruise works and it will not jerk or hesitate at ALL.  So it cant be a timing belt because that is a mechanical part and would be like that all the time not only pick and chose when the light is on.

Could it be the computer?  Has this happened to you???  What else can I do before I take it somewhere?
