Hello,

Within the past 3 days or so, my Jetta has been making a strange rumbling/ratting sound effect. From what I can tell, I believe the muffler may be the source of this noise. While the car idles and upon acceleration you can really hear the noise. Any suggestions on how to troubleshoot this? I may stop somewhere to see if I can get a code for it later. Any help is greatly appreciated.

take you hand and push or hit against the exhaust and see if you can duplicate the noise.
