What damage can be caused by this low oil pressure?

Asked by Jun 30, 2017 at 12:44 PM about the 2012 Volkswagen Jetta SE

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

A few months ago the dealership did not replace the oil gasket properly after an oil change and the low oil pressure light came on about 2wks later. Since then I've had to have some cam thing replaced for $1400 and now my check engine light has come on again. Could this all be a result of low oil pressure?

Possibly, it all depends on how far you drove it with low oil pressure, once an oil light even flickers you should shut it down and have it towed to a repair facility, I have seen some that suffered none to light damage can could be repaired by just replacing the damaged part to all out total failure of an engine ruining even the webbing that holds the bearings and turning the block blue due to friction and heat.

Thank you - I was fortunate that there was a VW dealer about 2 miles away and replaced everything...even though they were about to close for the evening.

Then have the codes pulled for the check engine light and see where that leads, it could just be a sensor ground or even a bad sensor itself.

Thank you - I will have the dealer do that.

Good idea if it is still there.
