Timing belt

Asked by Myster Jan 09, 2016 at 10:53 AM about the 2006 Dodge Stratus R/T Sedan FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I was driving and I hit a speed bump. The
mechanics time me its my timing belt n
water pump. If the timing belt breaks,
does that mean the water pump went out
first?

Not necessarily, matter of fact probably not. If the water pump froze up, then yes, it could have. But I don't know on that car if the water pump is driven by timing belt or serpentine belt. What mileage is on the car? And what engine?

Yes if you have the 3.0, the pump is driven by the same belt and it is recommended to be replaced with the belt, since you have to remove the entire front motor mount and engine cover to replace either one plus the water pump might've been the root cause
