After removing my engine cover how can I start my engine?

Asked by Mar 17, 2017 at 05:31 PM about the 2012 Chevrolet Malibu LS FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I want to be able to see my engine while it is running. If I remove the cover the
engine will not run.

It should run with the cover off, look for a safety switch but I don't think there is one.

But it will stay running with the cover on? See if it hits any wires when putting it on.

Most likely a safety device. The cover also keeps water and road splash out of the engine. Best to leave it on. My friend has a 2000 Chevy Blazer. When you remove the throttle body cover the engine stalls and will not restart until the cover is replaced. HTH. - Jim

Well, I trust what Js0816 is saying, I just never came across this. If you need the engine running with the cover off, find that safety switch.
