2008 Suzuki XL7

I go to turn the key and start car.  It won't start and I let go of key and it
continues to crank over for about 10 additional seconds before stopping.
What could cause that?

This is not an ignition switch problem. The motor actually is running for a brief period of time, but only on one or two cylinders. It is probably dieseling (excess fuel being delivered.
