Can run Nissan Altima 2012 without I-Key

Asked by treepalm Jun 03, 2015 at 09:50 AM about the 2012 Nissan Altima 2.5 S

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Hi,
I have a 2012 Nissan Altima 2.5s. If I start the engine normally wit i-key in my pocket,
then leave the vehicle running and get out. Then remove my i-key away from the
vehicle and enter the again I can shift gear (reverse, forward) and drive away without
the i-key present. Is this normal? I always believed that as soon as I press on the
brake pedal to shift gear, the engine would stop when no i-key is present inside the
vehicle. I have no error codes or any troubles.

Thanks,

I believe that is normal, If you read your owners manual it may have options for the cars start, run, and key distants functions.

Thanks Michael, Yes I believe this is true. I found that this is the case on other forums where someone had drove his Nissan hundred of miles and then stopped for gas where he had to stop the engine. He couldn't start it again because the i-key was within wife when he dropped her on the way. Though my question wasn't answered by Nissan dealer, actually they said I can't drive it. Any ways, thanks for your answer and I am relived that there is no problem with my car.
