Repair or replace?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

have a Ford Flex Titanium with the
AWD and ecoboost motor with 94k
miles. About 3 months ago the car
developed a shudder at low
acceleration, low RPM. I have head
from two mechanics now that it is a
torque converter issue. Both said that
to fix the issue I should replace the
transmission and the torque
converter, as apparently they are
paired together and one should not
be replaced without the other. Both
shops quoted north of 5k to fix. I
have heard from others that a car is
never the same after a transmission
replacement as well making me
further questioning. If it’s worth it. So
all that said, would you recommend I
repair or replace the car? If repair, do
I need a transmission replacement for
a torque converter issue? Lastly, are
transmission replacements generally
just a bad idea?

5k are you sure? Tell them you want one without the gold plating holy shit that's expensive. You should replace both. The old adage said you can make car payments or pay repair bills.

I guess it is so expensive as it is an AWD or maybe it has to do with the turbos. factory new from Ford AA5Z7000K price $4,262.67 plus whatever labor

My local shop quoted 5500 but I dont think it was a new transmission but rather a rebuild. The second quote was from the dealership at $7700.

Find another qualified shop for an estimate, the prices you're getting are way high. Just sayin

we have this very issue with our 2013 Flex Limited AWD with EcoBoost. it only has 90,000 miles. I feel like we got duped. Seems like this is a known issue with this engine... same thing happen to us developed a shudder at slow acceleration, then it would shudder while idling, not get up and go.. shop said it needs an entire new engine. . . taking it to the dealer we bought it from for another look but, so far I am grumpy.

The shuttering is from engine misfire Change out spark plugs and cylinders
