Mercedes CL550 intercooler

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Hi All,

My dealership just told me that I need to replace my intercooler due to a leak.  This leak has dripped on a spark plug and caused it to go bad, thus needing to replace the spark plugs and wiring.  I'm a bit confused as I thought the spark plugs were covered.  Am I being taken by my dealership?  I should also point out that they have had to add a small amount of coolant each time I was in for service while it was IN WARRANTY!  Not it is not and they are quoting me $4100 to fix the issue.

Intercoolers are usually in front of the radiator so I am not sure how it could leak onto the engine. Not only that you need to check and see if you have a liquid cooled intercooler or air to air. Take it to a good independent shop for another opinion.
