An old Audi will just break and break and break- and I threw my Audi crystal ball away- I am only answering this to tell you to get rid of that thing- let's see if there are any Gurus who want to spend the time to even respond to yet another Audi question-

Check your battery cables on both ends, then spark plugs & vacuum hoses

Preaty much what the ford guy said last check the cables make sure you did not leave anything off the alternator. i must ask where did you get the alternator from? i went threw 4 alternators before getting one that worked right. Some times you can get crappy rebuilds. I ordered the same alternator and the first 3 had a different circuit board each time. I had one with 4 capacitors one with 12 one with 7 till i gave up and went to my local parts place that had one and it worked right. My little cable also got fraid and broke off and i replaced the copper ending with an aluminum one. The alternator requires a copper end for proper voltage.
