Why will my car not move when i put it in drive or in reverse.

Asked by jessa_lauren Sep 09, 2016 at 11:41 AM about the 2001 Toyota Camry Solara SE V6 Coupe

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My car cranks up just fine. When i put the car in drive or reverse it shifts
great, but when i put it in drive and hit the gas pedal my car won't move the
rpm just shoots up to like 3 and won't move. so i tried to at least move it into
reverse and it does the exact same thing.. rpm just shoots up and won't
move. It's like your car is in neutral and when you hit the gas pedal rpm just
moves not the speedometer. Can anyone help me figure out what is
causing this? Everyone keeps telling me it's got to do with my transmission.

First thing you need to do is make sure that you have fluid in it and that the level of fluid is where it should be. It that is ok. You are going to need some transmission work

Assuming the car will roll in neutral meaning the parking brake is not on, and the brakes are not locked, and the car doesn't move at all (not even an inch), then either your torque converter, input shaft to transmission, or the trans. itself is suspect. Follow Up's advice first though. Get a AAA membership first then they will tow it for free to your favorite repair center. Hope this helps.
