2011 ram 1500 will not shut off after taking out key

Asked by mombo657 Sep 23, 2016 at 11:33 AM about the 2011 RAM 1500 Sport Crew Cab 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My truck will not shut off even after i remove the key from the ignition.
I have to turn it off by pulling the ignition fuse. Even if i don't turn it over and
just put it to ON, all the lights and radio will stay on after i remove key. Could
this be a relay or a key battery thing. everything is stock.

I was going to suggest a bad ignition switch but then saw several complaints just like yours on various Dodge forums, with many of the solutions being related to the WIN module.

The WIN module is the ignition. A 600.00 part or more to have replaced. I bought some time with mine by removing unit and spraying elect contact cleaner in small holes in the case. I could see the electronic bds and contacts inside. they were full of dust and grit. Been six months so far and all is good. Also chk the electrical connector that goes to the box.
