Engine swap in a 2000 Sebring JXi convertible

The question here is simple, Is there an engine which will produce a little better HP in the higher RPM range and fit without having to re-fabricate the front? Ive currently got the 2.5L Mitsu engine in it but the car is starting to get some higher mileage on it, and when it finally does die on me, instead of scrapping it i was going to turn it into the project car. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I dont know about another engine that'll bolt up, but I've always wanted to see a 318 v8 stuffed into one. I've seen it done on an intrepid with minimal work but not sure about a sebring. In my opinion metal fab is easer than trying to swap an engine and ecu from another car. Carburated 318,with an auto and a 8 3/4 rear if I was doing it.
That sounds pretty reasonable, this is the 5.2L one produced a while back, correct? If so, any idea where i might be able to look online to find one?
Chrysler has used the 318 in cars and trucks since the late 60's go to a junkyard and find a 2wd truck or an older RWD Dodge,Chrysler, or Plymouth. Its definitely a risk, and I wouldn't do it unless the current engine blew up. For the 1300 that engine costs you could buy an entire parts vehicle and have an engine transmission and rear end. If it were me I would make it work with a cheap junkyard engine first then after all the bugs are worked out I would dump in a nicely rebuilt engine. There's no sense dumping large sums of money into an experiment.

if you want more hp out of your car put a LXI engine in it.

Actually try asking mitsu tuning dealers in japan my 2,5L V6 l is producing 306 Hp, costet me 4560 dollars, 5 years ago. Took 8 hours off work, used evo tech parts, try that:)+ if i op for the Turbo step 2 it would produce in the 505 hp+ range. Thats on my 1995 Sebring coupe. I love it.

Or just go for millitech,(PTEF) oil additive, reduces friction should give you about 10% and a open cone filter (cold air intake + 5 % extra so thats 15 % extra, then give the car titanium tipped spark plugs. that should give u a extra 4 % SO THATS ABOUT 31 hP MORE,+ put the miltech in your gearbox(trany) another 10 Hp =41 Hp.
