Why is my 99 toyota tacoma pre runner running hot

Asked by IDGT Aug 28, 2015 at 07:57 PM about the 1999 Toyota Tacoma Prerunner V6 Ext. Cab

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I changed my water pump,  timing belt
,thermostat, spark plugs, and wires ,put new
valve cover gasket and my radiator is not a
year old also changed the oil and fuel filter
it was not running hot before I done all this
but it is now but only if I get up above 60
mph and it takes 30 min or so to start
running hot it only gets up to about 3\4 of
the way on the gauge if I turn the heater on
it goes down a little but not as cool as it
should get can any one help me it seems to
get hot faster when the weather heats up
during the day

does it have the same power it did befors the timing belt change??? this could be anything..even a rad hose colapsing... or a timing retard....

Like Kelly said, could be anything, like were the timing gears marks lined up properly when you put the belt on? And did you bleed the air out of the cooling system after changing the thermostat?

I'm going with air in the system, if your sure the timing marks were correct. Is there an air bleeder screw at the top of the thermostat housing?

And or the old fashion way by burping the air threw the radiator cap? Not familiar with Toyota cooling systems...

    95 Tacoma. 2.4L. New radiator, new thermostat, new water pump, new fan clutch, 50/50 mix. Still overheats to the point that it boils out coolant from reservoir. I am out of ideas.
