2004 Rendezvous there is a 'thunking' sound in the right front

Asked by blcme Feb 23, 2014 at 12:09 AM about the 2004 Buick Rendezvous CXL FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2004 Rendezvous when I make a right turn or go over a speed bump there is a
'thunking' sound in the right front -- what could that be?  I took it to our mechanic and he said
it is nothing, might be bushings but nothing to worry about.  The sound is getting more
frequent and louder.  I am primarily concerned about safety, but also am planning on selling
or trading in the vehicle this summer and am betting the an individual or dealership will
devalue the car because of this issue.

Thoughts?

If front wheel drive. Possibly cv axle going bad. Could also be bad wheel bearing, bad ball joint, bad tie rod end or bad shock/strut. I would have it inspected. These things only get worse and like you said this could turn into a major safety issue for you or other motorists if it breaks completely while driving down the road.
