transmission problems

smelled burning, saw smoke. car slowed. pulled over saw tranny fluid under car. after that car would only go 5
mph for about 3 minutes at a time.

Sounds like your transmission blew a seal! When you feel like your transmission is not operating properly or see that it is leaking allot of fluid -- -NEVER drive it or even run the engine or you will surely cause MUCH more damage than has already done. Your transmission was probably salvageable when it blew the seal but now I am sure it is busted. When you drove 5 mph for 3 minutes at a time, you were frying the internals of your transmission. Just for future reference, the transmission is the most intricate and complex part of your car and when you detect any problem with it, immediately get it towed to your mechanic.

After driving about 20 min while coming to a stop the transmission jumps the I hear a grinding noise as I drive it and it's loud what is happening? It feel like it's having problems changing gears then?
