my car begins to overheat after 5 mins of driveing&the heater quit?is it the thermostat?

Not always. If any work was done on the cooling system, air could have been Introduced and a bubble causes the overheating. The system can be bled (properly...look it up) and that's all that's needed. My 99 had this exact issue and when I researched I found an air bubble is a common problem.
