2005 Mustang

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Will a 2001 Ford 4.0 SOHC drop in my 2005 Ford
Mustang with manual trans?

I would not use an early 4.0 SOHC as they had a lot of problems with the timing chain set up. Not only that but you would likely run into emissions system issues which could mean your car could not pass smog inspection.

Thats the issue I'm having, had a timeing chain rattle to start, then oil light popped on and it died. Cranks but wont start.

If you go ahead and use the older engine be sure and update the whole valve train before it is installed. I like Ford but they really laid an egg with this engine.
