What is wrong with my gas gauge

I bought this car 6 weeks ago as I needed one bad as I got a decent job. It’s
a Chrysler sebring 2004. I noticed since owning this car that the gas gauge
wasn’t the most reliable thing out there, but it worked ok, sometimes it would
move slightly up or down from just turning it back on. But today I was getting
out of the store turned on my car and the low gas light came on for the first
time as I generally never let it get that low, so I drive go to get some food
before going to the gas station and the light turns off and it claims to be 75%
full lol. What could be wrong and what will it cost?  I’m a IT guy not a
mechanic like you guys and I’m a person who would love to fix it myself if it’s
something easy like replacing a fuse or sensor.

Well from what I Understand since I had the same issue. 2004 chrysler sebring touring convertible v6 2.7l 183,000 miles. The fuel sending unit is going bad. The unit is part of the fiel pump and the fuel pump is in the gas tank. Only way to replace the sending unit means replacing the fuel pump. Side not your fuel filter is part of the fuel pump also.
