There are numerous places where the VIN is stamped. Body panels, engine components, etc., etc., etc. But the official VIN is the one visible at the bottom of the windshield on the driver's side. Does that match your title? If not, you have a problem! Either the vehicle is stolen or something else has happened that probably isn't good! If the VIN on the vehicle matches the title buy a vehicle history report such as Carfax. This would not be the first time a vehicle was wrecked, put back together, then sold to some unsuspecting person like you. Look behind door panels, trim pieces, and under the seats for signs of body parts having been replaced. Usually you'll find the doors, for example, are a different color behind the door panels. Either way I'd suggest buying a Carfax. If you have two different VINs, one on the title and a different one on the vehicle you're going to want to see the history report of both VINs and try to piece together what happened. If the vehicle was reported stolen on the Carfax the next step I'd suggest is running the VIN through NCIB to confirm that. Then decide what to do from there. Personally I'd report it to the police. If it was stolen then recovered they'll have a record of that. Hope that helps! Jim
