Ford Focus 2014 computer problems

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I just bought a 2012 Ford Focus last night
from a used car dealer. I took my fiance to
an appointment this morning that took
longer than expected. I sat in parking lot
with the radio on and the battery went dead.
We found someone with a jump box to help
so they jumped the car off for us. We got
about a mile down the road when the car
starting driving badly and a light came on
that said Transmission hot wait 5 min. We
pulled over waited 5 min and it said ready
but the car did same thing. We called dealer
they towed it and said because of the jump
it fried the computer. They told us we would
have to tow car to Ford dealer and have
computer reprogrammed at our expense.
Does this sound right? I don't feel that
simply jumping off a car should cause such
major problems especially at my expense
when I have had the car less than 24 hours.
Any feed back would be appreciated.

No they were on correctly and the car dealer said that the computer was not damaged just erased and needs to be reprogrammed.

A re-flash is not that costly. A battery being disconnected or going dead has bad consequences these days. My wife's Subaru ran funny for a little while when she say the battery down low but not dead.

As I seach for answers on why my ECU is sporadically communicating with my TCM I see one similarity here, My battery died last week and when it seemed like it wasn’t charging I made a fatal mistake and reconnected the battery with the charger and put it on 75amp start function and was able to start the car, It’s now obvious to me the 2012^ focus’s cannot be jumped with jump boxes or start features on the chargers because we both screwed up our ecm’s

I have a 2014 Ford Focus SE, and the mpg on the computer keeps on changing. I have tried resetting it several times but it keeps on changing. Also whenever I sync my phone to the car it keeps disconnecting my phone
