Having some issues with my 2012 Ford Focus Starting Up

Asked by John Aug 19, 2018 at 06:54 PM about the 2012 Ford Focus SE

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

. 2 Days ago I drove to the market and back home, when I tried to start the
car again it would not start. It didn't attempt to start or turn over at all,
complete silence, I couldn't even hear my fuel pump engage. Thinking it was
a dead battery I had a friend jump me off, but that didn't work. So I
remembered a while ago that I knew how to go into the instrument cluster
test mode by holding OK on the steering wheel and turning the key to
position 1. That came up TEST so I started to scroll through to see if the
batter had 12V it did and NO DTC was found. Shrugging I decided to try and
start it and boom it started up no trouble. I drove it a round the block and
back home. An hour ago I go out to get in it to run to the store when I have
the same issue, can't start it. So I tried the same trick and it started up, when
I got home I decided to try and turn it off and back on again, upon doing that
it started fine. Then I let it run 10 minutes, turned it off and back on...but it
didnt try to start again I could hear my fuel pump engage when I turned the
key on and tried to turn it over, but it didn't try to start. SO I went into the
instrument cluster test like before but now its not even doing that either, I
don't think its the battery or the fuel pump and I am pretty sure if it were the
starter Id have noticed a struggle to start it in the past week or so. I have no
idea what could be going on. Any ideas?

As an added bit of information, I notice that when I hold the key in the start position and take my thumb and rub it around while pushing in on the arrow keys on the steering wheel it sometimes triggers the car to start. Other times it doesn't.

Did you ever get it fixed? I’m having the same issue! Ford Focus 2012 won’t start. It’s been 2 months and no one can figure out what it is. It’s at the third shop.
