I'm wondering what it turned out being? We are having the same problem and we have a newer battery.

Had the same issue. New battery. Fiat wouldn’t start. Had it towed to mechanic and they diagnosed that there was nothing wrong. Started like normal. Any ideas on what it could’ve been? Don’t want it to happen again and be stranded.

Did some research and appears that it may be a computer issue. “ 500 or 500 Abarth? Fiat has just released a revised Technical Service Bulletin (Fiat TSB) that describes a software update fixing starting issues for owners of 2012 - 2013 Fiat 500 and 500 Abarth models. This revised TSB, number 18-007-14 REV. B dated October 18, 2014 supersedes TSB 18- 007-14 REV. A dated August 14, 2014. The fix involves reflashing the Fiat 500 Powertrain Control Module (PCM) with revised software. The reflash also enhances cold weather starting performance.” http://www.fiat500usa.com/2014/10/fiat-500- improved-starting-fix.html?m=1

Had this problem one morning. (Fiat 500 sport 2012) Turned out to be the hot wire going to the solenoid was corroded but still making contact when wiggled. Jacked the car up on the passenger side then had another person turn the key while I wiggled the wire going to the starter solenoid and it started right up.. problem has gone away for now but I’m still going to replace the wiring

In my case, it turned out to be a bad starter. I first checked the batter, and that was determined to be working OK. I took the car to the mechanic and indeed it was a bad starter, and in my case the car also threw up a "check engine" code that turned out to be a thermostat that needed to be replaced.

I’m having the same problem with a 2008 Fiat 500. Green Flag said change the battery, I did, still won’t start. Where is the thing you can wiggle near the starter? If it is a faulty starter, is it expensive to fix? Debating whether it is time to change the car

Checked out shifter ETC., finally original STARTER was problem. REPLACED STARTER. MY Mechanic friend installed a wire connected to the starter to BATTERY TERMINAL. IT HAPPENED AGAIN AFTER ALMOST A YEAR ALL I HAD TO DO WAS TOUCH WIRE TO POSITIVE BATTERY TERMINAL. ALL was well for following year, NOW ITS HAPPENING AGAIN AND BATTERY TRICK IS NOT WORKING. TURN THE KEY AND LIGHTS COME ON..NO SOUND NO CRANK.NOTHING. DOES ANYONE KNOW WHAT THE PROBLEM IS PLEASE?? EMAIL BFUNNIMAN1@AOL.COM

2012 fiat no crank, new battery and starter and body control module. Still nothing! Any ideas? Do these cars have resets for the computer? Could it be ignition switch or something? Any ideas helpful.

My wife had the same problem with her car, wouldn't start though all the dash lights were on. My brother in law came down to check, it turned out to be the earth cable had corroded, might want to check.

I’ve been having the same problem for about 5 months, I’ve checked the ground wires and bolts for corrosion, the starter and battery plus connections are all good. The dealership couldn’t find the issue, checked for software updates, but nothing. It’s never consistent. Sometimes it starts on the next turn, sometimes it takes up to an hour. It’s really inconvenient and I’m at my wits end trying to diagnose it. There are no engine codes...I go to crank it and all lights on but won’t turn. Anyone else find another solution to this?

If you let this car sit-the oil drains from the hydraulic valves and there is no compression. There is a button inside the oil filler. You will need a screwdriver to push the button and a friend to start the car. https://www.google.com/amp/s/21stcenturyfiat 124spider.wordpress.com/2018/08/02/re- establishing-oil-flow-in-multi-air-brick-after- long-term-storage/amp/

Two days ago, my 2014 Fiat 500L decided not to start at a gas station. Couldn't get it to start. Lights, dash, radio, everything came on just fine but when trying to start all interior gauges/lights blinked and it made an odd bing sound but wouldn't activate starter. A friend came over, we hooked up jumper cables from his F-150 and it immediately fired up and hasn't done it again since...fingers crossed, knock on wood.

This happens to my 2012 Fiat Lounge intermittently for over a year now. I've had it to the dealer and they couldn't find a problem. I suspected the oil pressure issue, and put oil in it and within an hour it started, but antoher time putting a little oil in didn't work. I wonder about the oil pressue switch, but was told that it wouldn't start at all until that was replaced if that was the problem. Another mechanic thinks the ignition swtich is going bad (lots of wires in there that can break) but I wonder about the corrosion on the 'earth' cable and that solenoid wire but haven't been able to get under there and see the solenoid area, going to look at the 'earth' cable to the battery, but honestly I've been stranded at least a dozen times over the past year, its not a bad car if I didn't have this issue, and now I'm trying to sell it but how.. when it won't start half the time? I also noticed that the trunk won't open half the time. When I took it to the dealership (they ran a bunch of diagnostic tests, couldn't find a problem and didn't even charge me) then when I got it back the trunk seems to open 75% of the time now which makes me wonder if there is an electrical issue but no codes are thrown. Also, I couldn't set the time before taking it to dealer, now I can. Maybe they updated the CMU? but they didn't say they did. If I ever figure it out, I'll try to come back and update. (one day I drove it to lunch, ran through a puddle, parked it within minutes, tried to start an hour later.. wouldn't start until next day.. for no good reason),

Hello everybody My problem with my Fiat 500 is that when I stop to put gas and finish filling the tank, the car does not start, it tries but the engine does not start. Then with the foot on the accelerator to the bottom the car starts but with a failure. After several seconds it returns to normal, this problem is only when I refill gasoline. Because after the car starts normally, it never again has the problem, only when refilling gasoline.

Hi. My daughters 2012 Fiat 500 had the problem where it would not start. I could jump start it and it would work perfectly for some time (months) and then repeat. The car was under warrenty so it wnet to the dealer many times. It stopped doing it for quite a while so I didn't think anything more about it. Then suddenly TADA the problem resurfaced. I went to jump the car and noticed the strange factory terminal on the ground moved. I twisted it a bit and the car worked perfectly. I tried to tighten the terminal but it was maxed. This problem occured a few more times with exactly the same fix. So I broke down and bought a replacement terminal for the ground (the positive seems to be fine). The problem has not yet reoccured. So the simple fix is to twist the ground terminal toill it grabs. The long term fix is to replace the terminal.

Just bought a 2012 Fiat 500 Sport had electronics cutting out as I drove home, over heat warning, engine cutting out, only lasted 10 seconds on and off. Researched problem and disassembled the batttery connections both positive and negative. Still had problems. Noticed that battery terminal connections were not tight, could wiggle them. Used my dream Mel to open up the terminal gap to allow clamp to tighten completely. No problems at least for now!!!

Yes, when a battery connection is loose, it can become detached, especially when turning or hitting a bump. This intermittent closing and opening of the electrical circuit also causes the computer to lose its memory and require it to relearn the car's settings. That will also cause the loss of your personal settings. Any trouble codes stored are also lost, so it makes diagnostics difficult. Another common cause of this behavior is a broken ignition switch, whether its a key or a push-button.
