Why does my heat work on defrost but not when it's blowing through the vents?

Had the heat on in my car and I noticed that
it was blowing cold air, so I checked my
antifreeze and seen that it was low. I filled it
back up with 50/50 and it only took about
half a gallon. Heat started working again, so
I continued my trip and drove maybe 2
hours and noticed that it was blowing cold
air again so I checked my antifreeze again
and it was fine. So now my heat will work
only on defrost and it has to be wide open.

SOUNDS LIKE YOU MIGHT HAVE AIR TRPPED IN THE COOOLING SYSTEM ONE SIMPLE BOUBLE CAN MAKE A CAR DO CRAZY THINGS.SO LOOK FOR THE BLEEDING VALVE OPEN IT UP AND LET OOZE OUT TILL YOU HAVE A STEADY STREAM COMING OUT.OH YEAH YOUR GOING TO HAVE TO GET MORE COOLANT

I kind of figured something like that. Because I let the car cool and I filled it up to the "cold full line" which is maybe 4 to 5 inches down from the top of the reservoir. But at the top close to my radiator cap, there's a hose and there's an air bubble where the hose connects to the reservoir. Could that be the problem?
