2011 Chrysler minivan having trouble starting in the morning
Asked by Carisma_655 Aug 20, 2015 at 01:25 PM about the 2011 Chrysler Town & Country Touring FWD
Question type: Maintenance & Repair
2011 Chrysler van is having trouble starting every morning, or when it sits for more
than a few hours. It used to happen about once a month, but would start on second
try. Now, it is consistent and may not start until the 5th or 10th try. It just turns over.
Sometimes it fires, but dies right away. Eventually it will start and run like nothing
ever happened. The only codes were stored multiple cylinder misfire codes. No CEL.
Someone suggested fuel pump, but that should throw a code right?

To me, that was the first thing I thought of is the fuel pump. As far as a code for a fuel pump, typically there is not a designated code for the fuel pump other than a "P0230 Fuel Pump Primary Circuit Malfunction." There will be other codes as a result of a bad fuel pump such as misfires. And if you have seen multiple misfires in all cylinders, this tells me that it may be a fuel delivery problem. From what it sounds like, the pump is having a hard time getting the fuel pressure up. After it sits for a while, the fuel pressure in the rail will bleed down which would explain why it is difficult to start after it sits. Also this is a decent read: http://blog.chiltondiy.com/2012/05/how-to-tell-if-your-fuel-pump-needs-replacing/

There is some general maintenance things you can try first. Check air filter, clean throttle body replace fuel filter if have not done so in a while add Lucas Fuel Injector Cleaner to gas tank.
What did the issue end up being because we are having same issue with my wife's van
I have a 2012 an win i notice that id turned the keyfab all i got is the lights came on the dashboard but it did not crank over id turned it 3 or 4 times then it would start im like hmm why is it doing this so i wes doing something to see if it was it. So what i did fevered out if i turned the keyfab slow it starts ever time . Im theking maybe there's a ded spot in the switch. I hope this will help you or someone.
I'm having the same problem with my 2012 Town and Country. So what I do is turn key before start position and listen for fuel pump sound ( three second priming ) Once I hear the pump run , then I turn the key all the way. Starts all the time. If I don't hear pump I start over again. Possible bad pump or signal from key.
2011 town and country. Changed alternator, fuel pump and even invented in a fuel pump relay switch still want start. I hear the fuel pump running Van cranks really strong. But will not start.

I have a 2011 Chrysler town and country touring edition. 136,000 miles on it. It honestly runs wonderful when I can get it to start. Back in February of last year it started taking a few times before it would start. It would crank over but not start up all the way, usually about 2 to 3 times of trying and then it would start. It only done it for a couple of months and once it warmed up outside it was perfectly fine. No issues starting it at all. Well November hit of last year and it started getting cold again and 4 mechanics later...nobody can figure it out. It is definitely a huge issue when it is cold outside. Now it is taking 20 plus times trying to start it and sometimes I just give up. We have done the bypass on the TIPM. I know the fuel pump is kicking on everytime because I can hear it. Brand new Battery. Brand new Throttle Body and just had the throttle body reprogrammed. I am at the point of giving up but it is hard for me to due to the fact that when I can start it, it runs like a dream. Super smooth ride. Also it threw the codes for the evac system this last time at the shop. Does anyone have any input? We are at a loss.
