Hey guys! I do A LOT of highway driving in
speeds excess of 80mph for many hours at
a time. At 80mph, my car's RMPs sit at
2500 (6speed AT, 6.75K redline) It finally
hits 3K RPM at about 95 mph. The car now
has 135K miles on it and drives like an
absolute champ.

So my question is, what is considered a
safe engine speed to maintain the car at
for long periods of time? Gas mileage is no
concern for me because on some
interstates, I get 32 mph cruising at
90mph. And plus, I'd rather drive fast
instead of worrying about gas mileage.

I guess I'm just looking for a general rule of
thumb to get the most life out of my engine
regarding highway driving. Usually, I try to
cruise on the highway at or below 3K RPM.

The only reason you'll want to keep RPMs low is to save on fuel, your car will run fine at the higher speeds and RPM's, just keep in mind that as long as you also change you oil on a regular basis and all the other fluid levels in check, I see no problems..
