Sorry.Should have mentioned that to. If I move the shifter, all other letters light up except the p or n. I can jump the starter to start the truck and after a couple mins the p will light up.

Sounds like the wire plug is loose on ur neutral safety switch at the transmission, try pushing it in and see it it works if not, replace switch

Research the Digital Transmission Range Sensor operation. There is a return circuit within the pin-out and also park/neutral pin-out. I do not have the resources to tell if the light is illuminated from contact points within the column, or if the signal is sent back to the dash from the sensor on the transmission or elsewhere.

Has ref0420 Apr 19, 2016 or anyone figured this problem out? I have a 2011 Ford F150 Platinum No crank No start usually after the vehicle sits over night or sometimes it does a delayed start or will crank right up when key is turned on after it has run (when it decides to run) and engine is hot. It is not a starter switch, 8G1Z*15607*A PATS transceiver or ring, key reprogramming, starter, starter solenoid. I can turn the key on climb underneath it and jumper the start solenoid and it will start. The battery Specific Gravity is between 12.75 and 13.00 and the terminal voltage is usually <12.6 Volts. The battery will show up to 14.1 volts when the truck is run but settles back to that 12.6 volts if the truck sits over night. That voltage is monitored on a cigarette lighter USB plug that has a digital voltage monitor built in. When the truck does not want to start the instrument cluster "P" (park indicator) is not backlit. The center console "P" will light when the indicator on the instrument cluster is not lit and the truck is not cranking or starting. I have changed several relays, checked fuses and reseated connectors with not resolution. My wife says it is an old truck so live with it. I can turn the key on and after a delayed time sometimes the "P" indicator might come on and the truck will start. It has a mind of it's own. I can usually do a self test with the OBDII hand held where it test the engine electric cooling fan etc. and that usually brings back the "P" indicator, but not always. I have shaken wiring, connectors and as mentioned relays and fuses. None of which has lead to anything conclusive. I can see all the modules show up on the CAN bus when using ForScan and an ELM interface. When I plug in the ELM OBDII checker and have ForScan go out and look at the CAN bus that seems to "wake up" what is not initially allowing the "P" indicator to be back lit and the truck being inhibited from starting. I have reseated the connectors for the ECM, the instrument cluster, Body Control Module and many other wiring connectors with nothing resolving the situation. When it dries up a little around here I plan to get under the truck and reseat the connector going into the transmission which goes to the TCM and the Transmission Range Circuit Park/Neutral switch that GuruMB66X asked about. This switch use to be on the outside of the transmission but in now on the inside at least for my model through the 2014 years. My truck will not start if I press on the brake and move the shift to the "N" position. Usually if the park/neutral switch is bad you can do this so I don't think that is my problem. Surely "ref0420" resolved his F150 truck issue from 4 years ago or maybe just traded it in. Any thing new that resolves this no crank no start issue? Thanks

I have a 2011 F-150 2WD, 3.7L, transmission doesn't have an external P/N switch- I understand there were 3 transmissions in these, 2 have external P/N switch, third (mine) has something else. Ford wasn't offering any info for free, so I installed a button under my dash that switches 12V to the starter solenoid, actuating my starter when I don't have the P or N orange indicator everyone is complaining about. CAUTION: This will turn your starter over and start your truck IN GEAR. Exercise Caution! Next, you need to know that apparently this affects the mystery module that controls shifting, because I've noticed that sometimes when I cheat to start it this way, that it won't shift out of low gear, unless I use the manual shift button on the shift lever, then I can run it manually thru the gears. So, I can drive my truck when it screws up, but I need to pay attention to stuff. Good Luck!
