When I start my 2011 F-150 without dual temp control I hear a "banging noise" right behing the radio. Sometimes it bangs once or twice and occasionally it will continue for maybe 30 seconds.

My A/C works but only about 75% effective. If I change temp control to heat it gets hot. My problems is the efficiency level of A/C when outside temps are around 100. Do I need to change the blend door motor gear box?

Probably, inefficiency at the hot or cold setting could be the result of a broken cog on the plastic gear. However, it could also be a a with the blend door itself. Sometimes it only affects one position hot or cold. Try setting the temp to hot before starting the car and see if you get the bang noise.
It only bangs if setting is on coldest temperature. I can move the setting towards warm when it is banging and it stops. Then switch it right back to coldest and it bangs again. It seems like the door is not completely closing off the air from the heater side and that is why the air coming out of all the vents is cool but not COLD. I'm going to start taking the dash apart this week but wanting to make sure I can troubleshoot and change the correct part. Thanks for you help.
It is the actuator motor then. Same thing happened on my 2003 Explorer. The gears on the motor are plastic and when one or two break you get the bang. When enough break next to each other you will not get any movement at all. It will be stuck wherever it happens to stop. Fortunately I am in So. La. so mine got stuck on cold. Good. If it ever gets down to 40 here it's considered frigid.
I also suggest you check the net for the procedure. On my explorer the entire dash has to come out. I noticed on some F-150's the motor can be accessed through the glovebox. Good luck on that.
It was the actuator motor changed it out this afternoon. That back bolt is a son of a gun to get to. Thanks for your input.
