1991 Cadillac DeVille, cranks but no start, HELP PLEASE!

Asked by RTC520 Sep 28, 2016 at 12:29 PM about the 1991 Cadillac DeVille Sedan FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Trying to determine if my alternator or fuel pump is
causing my car to malfunction. 150,000 miles on it
it worked fine for about a week after I bought it but
stalled a couple of time while driving. Oil and
battery lights came on when it died. Now the car
will only start once in the mornings after being left
alone for about a day. When it does start it will run
for like 5 to 10 minutes  then die. I don't have any
testing lights or ohm readers and will need to tow
it to a shop for diagnosis. Just trying to get some
tips or insight since I'm not very mechanically
inclined.

It sounds as if the fuel pump may not be good, But you may want to change the fuel filter first it may be clogged. The fuel pressure needed to be checked you should take it to a shop to have tested if possible.

Thank you for the feedback, I do plan on taking it in but I'd like to know what to expect when I get the estimate back.
