Largely you are paying for the name/badge and implied value. Don't get me wrong, they are great vehicles. I have an IS300 and it has been a great vehicle. Fun to drive, reliable, comfortable and looks good going down the road.

I own a Lexus GX470. Lexus is a totally dependable vehicle of quality and comfort. The GX470 is an excellent touring vehicle. The best touring machine I have ever owned. You may be paying a premium just for the name but I feel that the performance is worth the value. They do command some respect from other drivers as you cruise down the road.
