Question type: Maintenance & Repair

A 93 Eldo was towed into my shop for starter (?) issues. I replaced the
starter, car started twice but motor was making a grinding noise from the
FRONT not the starter (so the starter wasnt stuck engaged) customer took
the car home and I got it towed back the next day. Replaced the starter
AGAIN, and the motor starts to turn over then clunks to a stop. Burned up a
brand new starter without ever turning over the engine. I pulled the plugs
thinking maybe hydro lock because he recently had a severe overheating
issue so I suspected head gasket, plugs are burned but dry. I can turn motor
over BACKWARDS no problem with a wrench but will not go forward. Any
ideas? Im thinking timing belt jammed in gears?
