Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Hey guys I have a issue with my 1999 cadillac
eldorado . About a month ago my car would
randomly turn off while driving , turns out I
needed a new alternator. I ended up buying a
new battery and the alternator but now
everytime I leave my car sitting for a few days
the car wont crank just a click then no sound
at all while trying to start the car .The only way
to start it is to jumpstart it and after that it
works fine please I need answers why do I
need to jump start my car at least once a
week?

Either your new alternator is not charging the battery fully or the battery is being drained by something that is still on in the car when you leave it. It doesn't take much so first, look around for a courtesy light, trunk light or glove box light that is not shutting off. If you don't find anything then you may need to determine what circuit is involved by attaching an amp meter in line with the positive battery terminal and pulling fuses until it reads zero. Then investigate the items that are on that fuse/circuit. A bad ground or power cable between the alternator and the battery would have the same effect as a bad alternator so make sure your cables are tight and corrosion free at the start of your troubleshooting. Good luck.
