Car randomly needs to be jumped

Asked by DaeND Dec 07, 2016 at 02:33 PM about the 2001 Cadillac Seville STS FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My husband's 2002 cadillac sts randomly won't
start, usually it happens when he's at work. He will
start it at home just fine, drive to work, sit in his car
during his breaks and have the radio on, but when
he goes for his last break or to leave for the day it
will be dead. It will start up easily with a jump and
not have issues for a couple more weeks and then
happen all over again. The battery is only 2-3 years
old. Also, and I don't know if it's related, it's saying
to service the security system.

The easiest way to get started is to disconnect your Batt neg terminal and place an amp meter in series. If you have a short you will get a reading on the meter. Don't try to start the car. After the tester is hooked up start pulling fuses one by one untill you see the meter go down this will get you in the general area of where the short may be that is causing the problem.
