Is my change oil message & check Engine soon light connected?

I just(3 wks ago) bought a 2002 cadillac
escalade and it has run perfect. But last
week i started getting a message saying to
change engine oil. Today The service
engine soon ligjt came on. I checked all
fluids and everything is fine. Is it just telling
me it needs an oil change or could there be
something wrong?
